Acne is a dreaded word for millions of teenagers and adults. Unsightly and occasionally painful acne can leave scars and skin damage if not treated properly.
Retin-A is an FDA-approved acne treatment made by Ortho-Dermatological. It comes in the form a gel meant to treat acne vulgaris. Despite the many myths surrounding acne, it’s a problem that cannot always be outgrown. Acne can be unsightly and painful, and should be properly treated rather than waiting for it to disappear over time.The active ingredient in Retin-A is something called Treninoin, which is an acidic form of Vitamin A. It assists loosening the pores to release dirt and oil build-up from the skin. Retin-A also helps prevent the skin from forming new build-ups by keeping the skin from sticking together.
It is recommended to use Retin-A once daily in the evening time applied only to the affected area. To reduce skin flaking, it’s best to wash your face the next morning. Noticeable differences can be seen after 2 – 3 weeks of use, during which your skin becomes more adjusted to the product. When used properly, the desired benefit could take up to seven weeks to achieve. Also, be advised that the active ingredient may cause an increased risk of sunburn, so it’s best to use a sunscreen or moisturizer to prevent the skin from becoming too dry.
While both products are used for skin care, they are meant to treat two entirely different conditions. Retin-A is a medication that treats severe acne by helping skin expunge impurities that cause blackheads and blemishes. Renova helps diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Each medicine is manufactured by the same company, however, Retin-A is currently designated to be used only as a treatment for acne vulgaris.
Because of the nature of Retin-A, the most common side effects include mild skin irritation and flaking. There may also be cases of redness, burning, itching, and peeling. Some temporary darkening or lightening of the skin can also occur. Excess application should be avoided as much as possible to prevent blisters and other forms of irritation. If for any reason you are experiencing any type of extreme side effects, then we strongly advised you consult a local physician.
This medication should not be used by anyone with an allergy to Treninoin or any of the other ingredients in Retin-A. It is also recommended that those with severe dry skin do not use this product as well.
