Repairing Sun Damage with Renova Cream

Tuesday, July 29 2008

Most of us know very little about skin care beyond having been taught over the past few decades about the use of sun block. And even knowing what we do today about the dangers of constant exposure to the sun – primarily those dangers related to increased risk of skin cancers such as basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma – millions of us still worship the sun.

Sun exposure can also lead to skin damage that makes us look older than we are. Also known as photodamage, sun damage to the skin is a form of what is called extrinsic aging, premature aging caused by the environment. Extrinsic aging is cumulative, which means the effects can worsen with continual unprotected solar exposure.

The good news is that a prescription product approved by the U.S. FDA can address at least some of the damage and adverse effects to facial skin. Renova cream can help reduce some fine facial wrinkles and make skin smoother and softer.

How and Why Renova Works

There are a number of wrinkle treatments on the market, some of which are expensive, painful (injections), and don’t address wrinkles created by sun damage. But Renova is different. Renova is the first prescription wrinkle treatment proven to reduce fine facial wrinkles, including crow's feet, when used as part of a complete skin care and sun protection program. Renova contains tretinoin, a derivative of Vitamin A, which is an essential nutrient found in yellow and orange vegetables such as carrots and yams. Vitamin A is also naturally occurring in the body. Tretinoin works within the cell, and is believed to increase collagen production in the epidermis (the outer, protective, nonvascular layer of the skin, and decrease collagen breakdown in the dermis (the connective tissue layer of the skin located below the epidermis).

By working within the cell to affect collagen production, the Tretinoin contained in Renova helps to improve the internal structure of the skin. Renova does not eliminate wrinkles as much as it reduces them with consistent treatment. While it improves facial quality, Renova does not claim to repair sun-damaged skin, reverse photoaging, or restore more youthful skin.

Results to Expect With Proper Use

With Renova, you should begin to notice your skin becoming smoother and softer within the first month or two. Within three to four months, you may notice a reduction in fine facial wrinkles. Additional benefits should be apparent within five to six months of therapy. You should continue the use of Renova Tretinoin cream after the sixth month to maintain the benefits you have achieved.

A Brief Glossary of Skin-Care Terms

Skin is complicated, and has its own set of medical terms. Knowing and understanding some of the definitions below may help you to take better care of your own skin.

Age spots: Spots in sometimes varying shades of brown found on the skin that are evidence of long-term sun damage. These are also sometimes called “liver spots.”

Collagen: A protein found in the skin’s connective tissue that causes skin to plump up.

Dermatologist: A doctor specializing in disorders and diseases of the skin, as well as the hair, nails and mucous membranes.

Elastin: A protein that is the principal structural component of the resilient fibers that enable skin to snap back when stretched.

Melanin: A brown pigment created by pigment-producing skin cells that is responsible for a tan following exposure to the sun.

Stratum Corneum: Outermost layer of dead cells in the epidermis that protects tissue and forms a barrier to help keep moisture in.

Ultraviolet A (UVA), Ultraviolet B (UVB): Two types of solar radiation that can result in suntan, sunburn, photodamage and, potentially, skin cancer.

Using Renova Tretinoin cream, and minimizing sun exposure, can make a difference in having healthy, attractive skin. Find out more about how using Renova can help you today.
