Fact or Fiction?  Is Cialis Better than Viagra – Part I

From the recent boom of pharmaceutical companies creating more and more oral therapy treatments for Erectile Dysfunction (ED), here comes the newest and quite possibly the best option so far:  Cialis.  Most people have already heard about the leading ED drug, Viagra, likely from the many commercials aired on television over the past decade from company responsible for its production, Pfizer.  However, what a lot of people may not know is that while Viagra is advertised as the most potent of all the ED drugs, it actually lasts the shortest amount of time in the system.

How long do the Leading ED Treatment Options Last?
There are currently three ED medications on the market, Viagra, Levitra and Cialis. Viagra was the first of these products and is still considered to be the strongest. While Levitra comes in second for kicking in faster, it has shown to be most effective for treating ED caused other forms where other treatment options could not.  Finally there is Cialis, the longest-lasting of all three of these ED drugs. Cialis tops the others by lasting a surprising 24-36 hours in the system post-dosage.

How do These ED Drugs Work?
All three of these drugs work in very similar fashion, as they are all PDE5 inhibitors. Medical research has concluded that the arteries which feed blood to the main shaft of the penis are regulated by the PDE5 enzyme, commonly found in abundance in most men who suffer from Erectile Dysfunction.  When this PDE5 enzyme is disabled, the arteries are able to relax and normal blood flow to the penis resumes, and upon sexual arousal or stimulation, the blood fills the shaft of the penis becoming an erection. Once sexual activity has been completed, or upon sexual release, the blood leaves the penis normally and returns its natural, rested state.
