Zyban Overview

Zyban (bupropion hydrochloride) is a nicotine-free, stop-smoking aid that has been shown to have a 29% chance at helping you to quit smoking. Zyban reduces nicotine withdrawl symptoms in the brain and curbs the urge to smoke.

How Does Zyban Work?

While it is unknown exactly how this drug works, we do know it boosts certain responsive chemicals in the brain which help to reduce the symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal. Zyban has been clinically proven to reduce the urge to smoke.

How to take Zyban:

Zyban Side Effects:

There are some side effects that may occur when taking this drug, in most cases they are minimal and will go away after a few weeks. The side effects include:

  • Dry Mouth
  • Sleepiness
  • In very rare cases, 1 out of roughly 1000 people experienced a seizure when taking this drug, if you experience a seizure when taking Zyban - STOP taking it and seek medical treatment immediately.
  • In very rare cases, taking a drug like Zyban can increase suicidal thoughts and behaviors, if you experience any of these - STOP taking Zyban and seek medical treatment immediately.

Zyban Precautions:

Always talk to your doctor and make sure to tell them about ANY and EVERY drug you are currently taking to avoid any interactions—also make sure to tell them if you have suffered from seizures in the past or have had suicidal thoughts before taking this drug. Women who are breast feeding may not be able to take this drug as well as anybody who is taking medications containing MAO inhibitors or those who have recently been using, or have just stopped using alcohol, sedatives, and tranquilizers. Ask your doctor if Zyban is the right smoking cessation medicaiton for you.
