A woman claims a repair on a United plane caused hair loss.

It’s fairly common for passengers to complain about turbulence, fees or poor service, but Karen Reed says her United flight from San Diego to Houston caused hair loss.

The tangled situation

Reed was recently traveling with her two children, when a maintenance worker had to fix the overhead bin. According to Reed, a worker used superglue which dripped all over her hair.

“He put super glue on a piece of plastic trim and put it on the overhead bin above me and proceeded to drip it everywhere,” Reed told ABC News. Reed complained, but says the worker ignored her.

“He was cleaning the seat and I told him the glue was still dripping from overhead but that’s how careless he was,” said Reed.

Her cushion was replaced to deal with the glue that had fallen, but Reed says the glue kept dripping.

“At this moment I’m sitting on super glue, I can feel the clumps of glue in my hair, I’m tired and I’m ready to get home,” she said. - Click to tweet

When Reed got home she said she had no choice but to cut her hair. She says she chopped nine inches off to remove the sticky mess.

Filing a complaint

United Airlines did apologize and offered miles and a gift card.

Reed filed a complaint with the flight attendant, the gate supervisor and even wrote a letter to the United execs and included a picture of her hair.

United offered her 40,000 miles and a $100 American Express gift card, but Reed says that’s not enough.

“For what they offered me, they’re not even giving me a round trip ticket, basically their customer service sucks,” said Reed.

United Responds

The airline did offer and apology. “We’re sorry about what happened, we reached out and spoke directly to Miss Reed. We appreciate her business and we’d like to welcome her back,” said United Airlines spokesman Charlie Hobart.
