Despite popular myth that salt is indeed good for you, it’s not. There really isn’t a good way to eat salt, even moderation is harmful. Most tasty food items that come drenched in salt are also the favorites on the fast food craving list.
Not only is regular table salt completely unhealthy, it also contains harmful additives and can hurt you much more than you would think.
Stay away from refined table salt as much as you can and you will not only feel a ton better, you will look better!
What Salt Does To Your Body
Salt creates water retention, which leads to uncomfortable bloating and actual waistline expansion. It may make your face and eyes look puffy and make your rings and shoes fit tighter. You will feel uncomfortable and thirsty. Your body retains this water to dilute the salt you’ve consumed to protect yourself from the natural irritating effect that it has on your tissue. After consuming more water and retaining more water, you will likely feel even worse than you did to start out with.
Often times after we have binged out on salty delicious foods like fries, pizza, popcorn or chips, we will begin to crave sweets as well. We all know what refined sugar does to the body and it isn’t pretty or healthy.
Though it has been long studied and put up a tremendous fight, salt is quite bad for your vascular health. It has been directly linked to cardiovascular disease and obesity. People who have been placed in a study by lessening their salt intake have also lessened their chances for cardiovascular disease at the same percentage.
This does not mean it is entirely forbidden to ever eat anything containing salt again. It means you need to stay away from refined table salt and from overusing any type of salt. Sea Salt is the healthiest version, although it contains very little iodine, which your body needs. You can get healthy salt from leafy green vegetables and ocean vegetables. Salt that is naturally found in unprocessed foods is the best option. Processed foods almost always contain way too much salt. Be wary of canned soups, frozen meals and pizza. These all contain much more salt than necessary. Once you cut back on salt, you will notice your sweet cravings decrease and you will feel much more active.
