Allegra Overview

Allegra (fexofenadine) is a powerful antihistamine that works to help people who are suffering from seasonal allergies, as well as hay fever or common household allergies. It can also be used to treat other allergic reactions such as hives.

This drug is an antihistamine. It works to counter the reactions that your body has to naturally occurring chemical histamines, which are produced when the body has an allergic reaction.

What is Hay Fever and how can Allegra Help?

Allergic rhinitis, more commonly referred to as hay fever, occurs when you inhale too many particles in the air that you are allergic to—which causes your body to release antihistamines as the immune system reacts to the presence of these foreign particles. Allegra helps to relieve allergic reactions by countering the antihistamines that your body releases and allowing you to be free of all of the symptoms from your allergic reaction.

What causes Allergic Rhinitis?

Allergic Rhinitis is caused by elements that you inhale which you are inherently allergic to. There are several common things that can cause hay fever, they include:

• Animal dander
• Pollen
• Dust
• Mites

Allegra Side Effects:

There are some side effects which you may experience when taking Allegra, they include the following:

• Headache
• Cold
• Backache
• Nausea
• Coughing
• Dizziness
• Drowsiness
• Menstrual Pain
• Flu-like symptoms
• Diarrhea
• In rare cases, a serious allergic reaction can occur which may involve the following symptoms: swelling of throat, lips mouth or tongue; or hives—if you experience any of these rare yet serious side effects, STOP taking Allegra and seek immediate medical assistance

Allegra Precautions:

Always make sure that you disclose to your doctor ALL of the drugs that you are currently taking in order to avoid any interactions or reactions from occurring. Do NOT take anti-acids such as Rolaids, Maalox, Mylanta, Milk of Magnesia, or Pepcid Complete close to taking Allegra, as they can decrease the effectiveness of this drug. If you miss a dosage of Allegra try and take it at the first opportunity that you get. If you are near the time of your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and keep taking your doses as scheduled. Women who are pregnant or who are nursing should make sure that they disclose this to their doctor prior to using this drug.
